Dear Liberty,

Mark Twain is often quoted as saying, “History doesn't repeat itself, but it does rhyme.”  As we celebrate Easter, the similarities to Christ’s time and ours appear to be carrying a similar tune.

John chapter 11 shows the Pharisees scheming against Jesus.  “But some of them (Jews) went to the Pharisees and told them the things which Jesus had done.  Therefore the chief priests and the Pharisees convened a council, and were saying, ‘What are we doing?  For this man is performing many signs.  If we let Him go on like this, all men will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.’"

Jesus was teaching the people and performing many miracles.  He was gathering believers wherever he went.  Instead of rejoicing that God’s promised Savior was here, the Sadducees feared that the Romans would take their authority over the people away from them.  The Sadducees were driven by political motivation to remain in power, while the Pharisees manipulated them for their own ideology.

Although they both had opposing views, they worked together, plotting against Jesus.  They did this despite knowing the scriptures.  They knew the prophecies of the Messiah and they knew Jesus was fulfilling them.  But if this itinerant rabbi grew in power and respect, both the Sadducees and Pharisees would only lose their control over the people.  The people in power over the political and religious life of the Jewish nation were obsessed with maintaining control rather than confessing God’s Word.  As a result the Jewish leaders choose to eliminate one of their own rather than risk losing their authority.  As John writes, “So from that day on they planned together to kill Him.”

The deceitful Sadducees that plotted against Jesus for their own political motives have their modern day counterparts in John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, Karl Rove, John McCain, Peter King, and Lindsey Graham.  These men, and others in the establishment GOP, have seen the strength and effectiveness of the conservative movement.  (see Tyrants And Tea Parties)  Fearing the loss of their own power, they have chosen again and again to attack, demean, and destroy anyone in their own party who dares threaten their political power, often siding with the ideological Pharisees of our day, the progressive democrats.

Let me make it perfectly clear that I am in no way saying a Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Mike Lee, or Ben Carson is our “savior”.  They are certainly no Barack Obama.  That being said they could very well save the Republican Party and bring the nation together rather than divide it.  However, instead of embracing the Constitution, the establishment GOP have hardened their hearts, circled their wagons and begun plotting the political deaths of their own.  They have abandoned their principles and sold out their consciences in exchange for the influence and privileges that comes with high government office.  This goes for both Republicans and Democrats alike.

The political leaders on both sides of the aisle have deserted the law and the Constitution of the United States for their own gain.  They are scared to death when they see an honest, God-fearing person gaining the trust and respect of the people.  They have no concern for protecting and serving the people.  They only have the desire for debilitating control.  The establishment in both parties is drunk with the concept of a big government that gives them the keys to people’s lives.  Those promoting a small government, pro-private sector atmosphere threaten the chokehold both parties have on the American people.

Many politicians have the mindset of the high priest Caiaphas.  He said, "You know nothing at all, nor do you take into account that it is expedient for you that one man die for the people, and that the whole nation not perish."  In Jesus’ case, this was true.  Jesus had to die so that “whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”  As John continues, “Now (Caiaphas) did not say this on his own initiative, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation, and not for the nation only, but in order that He might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.”

Jesus’ mission was not of this world.  His intention was and is unity.  His one death was the saving grace for all humanity.  Washington elites are more in line with Caiaphas’ earthly meaning of his statement.  Seeing only division and disunity, they use this as justification to politically eliminate not only conservative opponents but any person who threatens their authority.  But, if God wills, He will use Caiaphas’ mindset and actions for His benefit regardless of the Sadducees’, or Washington’s, objectives.

Liberty, as I write you this letter, know that your father and I are fighting every day to open people’s eyes to the lies and deceit of American politics.  I pray every night that it is God’s will that He raise up honest, trustworthy, God-fearing Americans to lead this country back into His loving arms. I pray that we have not forsaken him so much that He has forgotten us.

When you read this letter, our future will have been cemented in your past.  I pray with all my heart, my dear Liberty, that we also give you a unified, productive, and hopeful future.

     That’s my 2 cents.

Love,

Mom
